Art

Mission

The mission of the Arts Program at Bronx High School for Medical Science is to foster creativity, compassion, and communication through artistic expression. By incorporating theater, music, art and movement into a medical education, students can learn how to maintain their own emotional health and how to relate to a wide range of patients.

Vision

The vision is to build caring healthcare professionals who recognize the value of arts in healing, education, and community outreach in a culture where creativity is integrated into scientific learning, understanding of humanity, and caring for people.

Highlights about the school:

Our school, grounded in the sciences, strongly encourages students to engage in the arts and discover the creative pathways that best suit their interests and talents by providing a wide range of opportunities. The theatre, music, and art faculty collaborate closely with administration to foster a thriving arts community. Our program includes a fall play, a spring musical, theatre internships that offer behind-the-scenes experiences on Broadway, and multiple theatre and music field trips, including visits to the Metropolitan Opera. Students also showcase their talents through Hispanic Heritage Month and Black History Month performances, as well as an end-of-year art exhibition.
